Cervical Screening
It’s a simple check that can make a big difference to your long-term health.
Cervical screening is one of the most important steps women in Australia can take to protect their health. It helps detect early changes in the cervix before they develop into cancer, giving you the best chance of early treatment and peace of mind.
Women aged 25 to 74 who have ever been sexually active are eligible for screening every five years.
The test is simple and quick and can either be performed by your GP, or if eligible a self test may be available. The test looks for the presence of human papilloma virus (HPV) (the virus that can lead to cervical cancer).
